Hello, air-purifying friend! I am the Spider Plant, your cheerful and resilient houseplant known for my arching green-and-white striped leaves and adorable baby plantlets that dangle like little spiders on a web. I'm one of the most popular and easy-to-grow indoor plants, here to purify your air, multiply joyfully, and bring vibrant life to your home or office with minimal fuss!

I'm a clump-forming perennial with long, slender leaves that gracefully arch outward, creating a beautiful fountain-like appearance.
My most charming feature is my ability to produce "pups" or "spiderettes"—complete baby plants that hang from long runners, which can be easily propagated.
I'm incredibly adaptable and can thrive in a wide range of indoor conditions.
I'm non-toxic and safe for homes with pets and children, making me a worry-free plant companion.

I am native to tropical and southern Africa, but I have become a beloved houseplant worldwide.

I prefer to dry out slightly between waterings.
Water me when the top inch of soil feels dry—usually once a week.
I'm quite forgiving if you occasionally forget to water me.
I'm sensitive to fluoride in water—brown leaf tips may appear if using tap water; filtered or rainwater is best.

I thrive in bright, indirect light but can adapt to various conditions.
I can tolerate some direct morning sun but may scorch in intense afternoon light.
I can also survive in lower light, though my growth may slow and variegation may fade.

I enjoy average room temperatures between 18°C and 27°C.
I'm sensitive to cold—keep me away from temperatures below 10°C and cold drafts.

Use a well-draining potting mix—standard houseplant soil works well.

Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

I look beautiful in hanging baskets where my leaves and plantlets can cascade.

Plant me at the same depth as I was in my nursery container.

I can be easily propagated by planting the spiderettes in soil or rooting them in water first.

Repot when I become root-bound, usually every 2-3 years.

Feed me with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 2-4 weeks during spring and summer.
I'm not a heavy feeder—too much fertilizer can cause brown leaf tips.

Scientific Name: Chlorophytum comosum

Common Names: Airplane Plant, Ribbon Plant, Spider Ivy

Plant Family: Asparagaceae

Plant Type: Indoor foliage plant

Great news! I am completely non-toxic to cats and dogs. In fact, I'm often listed as a pet-safe plant, though some cats may be attracted to my grassy leaves!

I'm an excellent natural air purifier! NASA studies have shown I effectively remove pollutants like formaldehyde, xylene, and carbon monoxide from indoor air.

Superb air-purifying abilities

Easy to propagate and share with friends

Safe for pets and children

Adaptable to various light conditions

Fast-growing and constantly producing new plantlets

Brown leaf tips - Usually from fluoride in water, low humidity, or over-fertilizing

Pale leaves - Not enough light

Root rot - From overwatering

Mealybugs - Occasionally in leaf axils

Lack of plantlets - Often due to insufficient light or the plant being too young

With proper care, I can live for many years—often decades! I'm a vigorous grower that will continuously produce new leaves and spiderettes, ensuring you always have plants to enjoy and share. Many Spider Plants become family heirlooms, passed down through generations!
