I am Dracaena Lemon, the vibrant splash of citrus in your living room. My upright, cane-like stems are topped with stunning rosettes of long, arching leaves that blaze with bold stripes of neon lime, deep green, and sometimes thin white margins. I bring the energy and brightness of a lemon grove indoors, purifying the air with my striking, colorful presence.
I am a popular variegated cultivar of a Dracaena species (likely Dracaena fragrans or deremensis), selected for its vivid, lemon-lime colored foliage. I am a top-choice houseplant prized for my architectural form, air-purifying abilities, and tolerance of indoor conditions.
Cultivated variety derived from species native to tropical Africa. Bred specifically for its vibrant leaf coloration and adaptability as an indoor plant.
Allow the top 50-75% of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let drain. Highly sensitive to overwatering and fluoride/chlorine in water, which can cause brown leaf tips. Use distilled or rainwater if possible.
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant variegation. Can tolerate medium light but may lose some color intensity. Avoid direct harsh sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Thrives in average room temperatures (18-24°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
Plant in a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. Suitable for containers and can be grown as a single cane, multi-cane, or even a braided tree form. Repot every 2-3 years.
Feed lightly with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength, once a month during spring and summer only. Do not fertilize in fall and winter.
Botanical name: Likely Dracaena fragrans 'Lemon Lime' or Dracaena deremensis 'Lemon Surprise'; Common names: Lemon Lime Dracaena, Striped Dracaena; Family: Asparagaceae.
⚠️ TOXIC to cats and dogs. Contains saponins which can cause vomiting, drooling, loss of appetite, and depression if ingested.
High. Renowned as one of the best air-purifying houseplants. Effectively removes toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, trichloroethylene, and xylene from indoor air.
Exceptional air purifier with a vibrant, uplifting appearance; adds a strong vertical element and tropical flair to interior décor; relatively low-maintenance and slow-growing, requiring little pruning.
Brown leaf tips from fluoride/chlorine, dry air, or over/under-watering. Leaf drop from sudden temperature changes or overwatering. Susceptible to spider mites and mealybugs in dry indoor air.
Long-lived perennial houseplant. Can thrive for many years (even decades) with proper care, slowly reaching 1.5-2 meters or more indoors.
