Hello, tropical dreamer! I am the Pandanus Plant, your architectural and resilient companion often called "Screw Pine" due to my spiral arrangement of long, sword-like leaves. While I'm not a true pine, I bring a bold, tropical vibe to gardens and interiors with my striking form and easy-going nature. I'm a survivor—thriving in coastal areas, sandy soils, and sunny spots where other plants might struggle!
I'm a tropical shrub or small tree known for my long, narrow leaves with serrated edges, arranged in a graceful spiral around my stem.
As I mature, I develop unique aerial prop roots that support my growth and give me a distinctive, sculptural look.
I'm incredibly versatile—perfect for seaside gardens, poolside plantings, or as a dramatic indoor statement plant.
In many cultures, my leaves are used for weaving mats, baskets, and even in cooking!
I am native to coastal regions across the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans, including parts of India, Southeast Asia, and Australia.
I'm moderately drought-tolerant once established.
Water me deeply once a week during the growing season.
I prefer the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
Reduce watering in winter when my growth slows down.
I thrive in bright, direct sunlight—both indoors and outdoors.
I can tolerate partial shade, but I grow best and maintain my vibrant color with plenty of light.
I prefer warm, humid conditions between 20°C and 35°C.
I'm sensitive to frost and cold drafts—keep me in temperatures above 15°C.
Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. I'm excellent for sandy or coastal soils!
If planting in a container, use a well-draining potting mix with sand or perlite.
Plant me at the same depth as I was in my nursery pot.
Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to retain moisture.
Wear gloves when handling me—my leaf edges can be sharp!
For indoor growing, place me near a bright south or west-facing window.
Feed me with a balanced liquid fertilizer (NPK 10-10-10) every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer.
I also appreciate occasional feeding with compost or slow-release granules.
Scientific Name: Pandanus tectorius (and other Pandanus species)
Common Names: Screw Pine, Kewda, Ketaki, Umbrella Tree

I am generally considered non-toxic to pets, but my sharp leaf edges can cause physical injury—best to place me where pets won't brush against me.
I'm excellent at purifying indoor air! My large leaves absorb pollutants and release fresh oxygen, helping create a healthier living environment.
