I am Avala, the Indian Gooseberry tree. My small, round green fruits are sour yet refreshing, packed with vitamin C and antioxidants. I thrive in dry climates, offering families health benefits and farmers a resilient orchard crop.

I am a subtropical fruit tree producing small green gooseberries.

Native to India; cultivated across Asia.

Irrigate weekly during dry months; drought-tolerant once mature.

Requires full sun.

Thrives in 20–35°C; tolerates dry climates.

Plant in sandy-loam soil; spacing 6 x 6 m; grafts and seedlings used.

Apply compost and NPK 6:6:6 annually; supplement with micronutrients.

Botanical name: Phyllanthus emblica; Family: Euphorbiaceae.

Fruits are safe; seeds edible but bitter.

Moderate; dense foliage reduces dust.

Fruits rich in vitamin C, antioxidants; used in Ayurveda, pickles, juices, and tonics.

Susceptible to fruit rot, leaf spot, and aphids; prune for airflow.

Can live 50–60 years; starts fruiting in 4–5 years; peak yield from year 10 onward.
