All Details

I am the White Water Apple, the crisp, refreshing jewel of the tropics. My graceful, branching tree is adorned with glossy leaves and bears bell-shaped, waxy fruits that gleam like polished ivory or pale jade. With a subtle floral sweetness and a texture that crunches like a fresh apple, I am the essence of a hydrating, delicate garden snack.

I am a variety of the Java Apple or Wax Apple (Syzygium samarangense), specifically one with pale green to whitish fruit. I am a fast-growing, tropical evergreen tree prized for its ornamental beauty and refreshing, mildly sweet fruits eaten fresh.

Native to Southeast Asia (especially Malaysia and Indonesia). Widely cultivated in tropical home gardens and orchards across South Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas.

Requires abundant and consistent water, especially during flowering and fruit development, to produce juicy, crisp fruit. Thrives in moist, almost swampy conditions and is intolerant of drought.

Prefers full sun (6+ hours) for best fruiting but can tolerate light partial shade. Ample sunlight enhances fruit sweetness and color development.

A strict tropical tree. Thrives in hot, humid climates (25-32°C) with high rainfall. Sensitive to cold and frost.

Plant in deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Due to its size and love for water, it is ideal for areas with high water tables or near ponds. Space trees 6-8 meters apart.

Feed regularly with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season. Additional potassium and phosphorus during flowering can improve fruit set and quality.

Botanical name: Syzygium samarangense (white/green cultivar); Common names: Wax Apple, Java Apple, Bell Fruit, Jambu Air, Chambakka; Family: Myrtaceae.

The ripe fruit flesh is generally considered non-toxic. However, the seeds and other plant parts are not meant for consumption. As with any non-standard pet food, moderation and supervision are advised.

Moderate to High. As a fast-growing, leafy evergreen tree, it contributes to oxygen production, provides good shade, and helps humidify the air.

Produces uniquely crisp, refreshing, and hydrating fruit (high water content); the tree is highly ornamental with attractive foliage, flowers, and glossy fruits; provides excellent shade; often grown as a decorative and productive garden tree.

Fruit flies and birds are attracted to the ripe fruit. The tree can be susceptible to rust and anthracnose fungal diseases, especially in humid conditions. Requires significant space and water.

Perennial tree with a moderate lifespan. Productive for 20-40 years. Can grow 5-15 meters tall, but often kept smaller through pruning in gardens.
