All Details

I am the Kashmiri Apple Bear, the crown jewel of the Himalayan orchards. My sturdy, spreading tree withstands the mountain chill to produce magnificent, large fruits with a glossy, bright red blush over a creamy-yellow base. My crisp, snow-white flesh is intensely juicy, perfectly balanced between sweetness and refreshing tartness, carrying the pristine essence of the Kashmir valley.

I am a premium, cold-hardy cultivar of apple (Malus domestica) specifically adapted to and celebrated from the Kashmir region. I am prized for my exceptional eating quality, storability, and status as a signature export of Kashmir.

Cultivated in the temperate, high-altitude apple-growing regions of Jammu & Kashmir, India. Specific varieties like 'Ambri', 'American Trellis', or 'Maharaji' are iconic Kashmiri apples.

Requires consistent moisture, especially during fruit set and enlargement. In Kashmir, relies heavily on spring snowmelt and scheduled irrigation. Drought leads to small, poor-quality fruit.

Demands full sun in a cool climate. The intense sunlight of high altitudes combined with cool temperatures is ideal for developing both color and complex sugars.

Thrives in temperate climates with a distinct cold winter (chilling requirement) for dormancy and a mild growing season (20-25°C). Perfectly adapted to the Kashmiri climate with freezing winters.

Plant in deep, well-drained, loamy soil. Requires careful spacing (4-5m) and training (often on trellises) for optimal light exposure and air circulation in commercial orchards.

Requires balanced nutrition based on soil tests. A regimen of nitrogen in spring, with increased potassium and phosphorus during fruiting, is standard. Organic mulching is highly beneficial.

Botanical name: Malus domestica (Kashmiri cultivars); Common names: Often referred to by specific names like Ambri Apple, or simply "Kashmiri Apple"; Family: Rosaceae.

The fruit flesh is safe for pets in moderation. However, the seeds contain cyanogenic glycosides (cyanide) and should not be ingested. Stems and leaves may also cause mild stomach upset.

Moderate. As a deciduous fruit tree, it contributes to seasonal oxygen production and carbon sequestration. Its primary value is agricultural and economic.

Produces world-class dessert apples known for flavor and texture; a major economic crop for the Kashmir region; fruit has a good shelf life and transportability; the tree provides beautiful spring blossoms.

Susceptible to major apple diseases: scab, fire blight, and powdery mildew. Pests include codling moth, aphids, and mites. Requires a rigorous spray schedule and expert horticultural management.

Long-lived perennial tree. A well-managed orchard tree remains commercially productive for 30-50 years. Can grow 4-6 meters tall but is often kept smaller for ease of harvest.
