Greetings, noble gardener! I am Millingtonia, your statuesque and divinely fragrant tree! I am known as the Tree Jasmine for a reason—my canopy is covered in clusters of long, trumpet-shaped, white flowers that release an intensely sweet, jasmine-like perfume, especially after sunset. I'm not just a tree; I am a living piece of poetry that fills the night air with magic.
I am a tall, fast-growing, evergreen tree with a straight trunk and a beautifully layered, pagoda-like branching habit.
My flowers are delicate and white, with a incredibly long tube, and they bloom in glorious profusion.
I am a spectacular specimen tree for large gardens, parks, and avenues, valued for my timber, flowers, and sheer ornamental grandeur.
I am native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, including India, Myanmar, and Thailand.
I have moderate water needs.
As a young tree, I need regular watering to establish a strong root system. Water me deeply 2-3 times a week.
Once mature, I am fairly drought-tolerant but will look my best with a deep, weekly soaking during the dry season. I do not like waterlogged soil.
I am a sun-lover to my core! I require full, direct sunlight for optimal growth and flowering.
Please plant me in a spot where I can bask in the sun all day long. I will not thrive in the shade.
I am a true tree of the tropics and subtropics. I thrive in temperatures between 20°C and 35°C.
I am sensitive to frost and prolonged freezing conditions. Mature trees can handle a light frost, but young trees need protection.
Location: Choose a spot with LOTS of vertical and horizontal space. I can grow over 25 meters (80 feet) tall!
Soil: I prefer deep, well-draining, loamy soil, but I am adaptable and can even grow in rocky ground. My one demand is good drainage.
Planting: Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Place me in the hole, backfill, and water thoroughly to settle the soil.
Staking: Young trees may need staking for the first year or two to ensure they grow straight and tall.
I am not a heavy feeder. To support my rapid growth, feed me with a balanced, slow-release tree fertilizer or a generous amount of well-rotted compost or manure in the spring, at the start of the growing season. This is especially helpful for young trees.
Scientific Name: Millingtonia hortensis

Information is limited. There is no widespread documentation of severe toxicity. However, as a precaution with any non-food plant, it is wise to prevent pets from ingesting large quantities of leaves or flowers.
As a massive, leafy tree, I am a powerhouse for improving air quality. I absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide and release oxygen, while my large canopy helps trap dust and particulate matter, giving you cleaner, fresher air.
Heavenly Night Fragrance: My scent is legendary, transforming your garden into a perfumed paradise after dark.
Fast-Growing Shade: I provide a wonderful, high canopy of dappled shade relatively quickly.
Stunning Ornamental Value: My graceful form and spectacular floral displays are a sight to behold.
Timber and Cork: My soft, light wood is used for making the "cork" for stringed instruments in some traditions.
Litter: My flowers drop continuously during the blooming season, creating a fragrant carpet on the ground below.
Surface Roots: Like many large trees, my roots can appear on the surface as I mature, so avoid planting me too close to pavements or structures.
Pests: I am generally pest-resistant but can occasionally be bothered by scale insects or mealybugs.
Wind Damage: My branches can be somewhat brittle, so I should be planted in a location sheltered from very strong winds.
I am a long-lived perennial tree. Once established, I will become a permanent and beloved feature of your landscape, thriving and blooming for many decades. I am a tree for generations to enjoy.
