Hello, bringer of fortune and harmony! I am Lucky Bamboo, your resilient and elegant companion, celebrated for my graceful, upright stalks and lush green foliage. Despite my name, I am not a true bamboo but a member of the Dracaena family! I am a cornerstone of Feng Shui, believed to attract positive energy, prosperity, and good luck. I'm here to add a touch of serene beauty and auspicious vibes to your home or office!
I am a hardy, evergreen plant with straight, often twisty, cane-like stalks that resemble bamboo.
My most distinctive feature is my ability to grow in both water and soil, often arranged in artistic braids or spirals.
My leaves are long, slender, and lance-shaped, growing in a tuft from the top of each stalk, creating a graceful, architectural form.
I am a slow-growing plant, valued for my longevity and low-maintenance nature.
I am native to the tropical rainforests of Africa and Asia, but my popularity as a symbol of luck stems from Chinese traditions.
Use distilled, filtered, or rainwater, as I am very sensitive to the chemicals (chlorine, fluoride) in tap water.
Keep the water level consistent, covering the roots by about 1-2 inches.
Change the water completely every two weeks to prevent bacterial growth and keep it fresh.
Always keep my roots submerged.
I thrive in bright, indirect light.
I can tolerate lower light conditions, but my growth will be slower, and the leaves may lose some of their vibrant green color.
Avoid harsh, direct sunlight, which can scorch and yellow my leaves.
I enjoy average room temperatures between 18°C and 32°C.
I am sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C. Keep me away from air conditioners and drafty windows.
In Water: Place my stalks in a vase or container with clean pebbles or marbles to anchor me. Add water as described above.
In Soil: Use a well-draining, rich potting mix. A container with drainage holes is a must.
I am perfect for desks, tabletops, and shelves, bringing a calming, minimalist aesthetic to any space.
I am a very light feeder. If growing in water, add a single drop of liquid fertilizer to the water every 2-3 months.
If in soil, fertilize with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.
Over-fertilizing will cause the leaf tips to turn yellow and brown.
Scientific Name: Dracaena sanderiana
Common Names: Ribbon Plant, Chinese Water Bamboo, Friendship Bamboo
Plant Family: Asparagaceae
Plant Type: Tropical evergreen perennial, typically grown as a houseplant
TOXIC to cats and dogs. I contain saponins, which can cause vomiting, drooling, and dilated pupils if ingested. Please keep me out of reach of your furry friends.
Like other Dracaenas, I help purify the air by removing common toxins like benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene.
A powerful symbol of good fortune, prosperity, and positive energy.
Extremely adaptable and easy to care for, perfect for beginners.
Grows happily in water, creating a beautiful, low-maintenance living decoration.
Adds a modern, zen-like aesthetic to any interior.
Yellow Leaves - Often caused by too much direct sun, poor water quality (chemicals), or over-fertilizing.
Brown Leaf Tips - Usually a sign of low humidity, chemical burn from tap water, or over-fertilizing.
Root Rot (in soil) - From overwatering or poor drainage.
Pests - Can occasionally be bothered by mealybugs or spider mites, especially in dry air.
I am a long-lived and steadfast plant! With simple care, I can thrive for several years, even decades. My stalks will slowly grow taller and can be propagated by cutting and replanting the tops. I am more than just a plant; I am a daily reminder of growth, resilience, and the positive energy you wish to attract into your life.
