I am a popular, versatile flowering plant known for my glossy, waxy leaves and clusters of delicate blooms in shades of pink, red, white, or coral. My foliage can be green, bronze, or variegated, adding to my visual appeal even when I'm not in bloom. I am loved for my long-lasting flowers, low maintenance needs, and ability to thrive in both sun and shade, making me ideal for beds, borders, containers, and indoor pots.

Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America, especially Brazil. I have been widely hybridized and are now grown worldwide as an annual in cooler climates and as a perennial in frost-free regions. I am a common choice for urban gardens, parks, and indoor decoration.
I prefer moderate watering. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause wilting and leaf drop. Water at the base to keep foliage dry and prevent fungal issues.
I thrive in bright, indirect light or partial shade. I can tolerate morning sun but should be protected from harsh afternoon sunlight, which can scorch my leaves. I also perform well in shaded areas, making me adaptable to various garden spots.
I flourish in temperatures between 18°C to 26°C. I am sensitive to frost and extreme heat. In hot climates, I benefit from afternoon shade. Indoors, I prefer consistent room temperatures away from drafts.
Plant me in well-draining, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Space plants 15–25 cm apart to allow for bushy growth. I do well in garden beds, hanging baskets, window boxes, and as a houseplant in bright rooms.
Feed me every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive foliage growth with fewer blooms.
Botanical name: Begonia × semperflorens-cultorum. Family: Begoniaceae. I am commonly called "Fibrous Begonia" or "Bedding Begonia." My waxy leaves help reduce water loss, and I bloom continuously under suitable conditions.
Mildly toxic to pets if ingested. Contains insoluble oxalates that can cause oral irritation, drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing in cats and dogs. Keep me out of their reach.
Moderate. Like many houseplants, I help improve indoor air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen. My lush foliage can also contribute to a calming indoor environment.
I provide non-stop color with minimal care, making me perfect for beginners. I work well in mass plantings, edging, and mixed containers. I am also relatively pest-resistant and can bloom almost year-round in ideal conditions.
Susceptible to powdery mildew, botrytis (gray mold), and stem rot in overly damp conditions. Pests like mealybugs, aphids, and spider mites can sometimes appear, especially indoors. Yellow leaves may signal overwatering or poor drainage.
Usually grown as an annual in climates with frost, but in tropical or indoor settings, I can live as a perennial for 2–3 years or longer with proper care. I can be propagated easily from stem cuttings to extend my presence.
