Namaste, and welcome divine fragrance! I am Mogra, your classic and cherished Arabian Jasmine. I am famous across India and the world for my pure, pinwheel-shaped white flowers and my supremely intoxicating, sweet scent that fills the evening air. I am a symbol of purity, love, and grace, often used in garlands, religious ceremonies, and for adorning hair.

I am a tender, evergreen perennial that can grow as a bushy shrub or a climbing vine, depending on how I am trained and pruned.
My glossy, dark green leaves are the perfect backdrop for my delicate, highly fragrant blooms.
I am perfect for gardens, containers, near windows, or as a fragrant hedge.

I am native to tropical Asia, from India to Southeast Asia.

I like my soil to be kept consistently moist, but never soggy.
Water me deeply when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. In the summer heat, this might mean every day or every other day. In winter, reduce watering.
Good drainage is absolutely essential to prevent root rot.

I need plenty of light to produce my precious flowers! I prefer full sun to partial shade.
For the most abundant blooms, give me at least 4-6 hours of direct morning sunlight. I can tolerate some afternoon shade in very hot climates.

I thrive in warm, humid conditions. My happy place is between 18°C and 30°C.
I am very sensitive to frost and cold winds. If you live in a cooler climate, I am best grown in a pot that can be brought indoors to a sunny spot during winter.

Pot: Choose a medium to large pot with excellent drainage holes.

Soil: I prefer rich, well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. A mix of garden soil, compost (cow dung compost is excellent!), and sand or perlite is perfect.

Planting: Place me in the pot at the same level I was in my nursery container. Gently fill with soil and water well.

Support: If you want me to climb, provide a small trellis or support at the time of planting.

I am a heavy feeder, especially during the blooming season.
Feed me with a phosphorus-rich fertilizer (like a Bloom Booster, e.g., NPK 7-9-5) or a balanced fertilizer (NPK 10-10-10) every 2-3 weeks during the active growing season (spring to fall).
For organic care, feed me a handful of vermicompost or cow manure every month.

Scientific Name: Jasminum sambac

Common Names: Arabian Jasmine, Mogra, Motiya, Belle of India

Plant Family: Oleaceae

Plant Type: Evergreen Flowering Shrub/Vine

Please be cautious. While the scent is heavenly for us, the ASPCA lists Jasmine (Jasminum species) as toxic to cats and dogs. Ingestion can cause gastrointestinal upset. It's safest to keep me out of reach of your furry friends.

While I am grown primarily for my unparalleled fragrance, as a leafy plant, I do contribute to air purification by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.

Divine Fragrance: My scent is known to reduce stress, uplift mood, and promote a sense of well-being.

Beautiful Blooms: My pure white flowers are simple, elegant, and perfect for rituals and decorations.

Versatile Growth: I can be grown as a shrub, a hedge, or a climbing vine on a trellis.

Auspicious Plant: I am considered a very sacred and lucky plant in many cultures.

Not Flowering: The most common cause is insufficient sunlight. Other reasons include over-fertilizing with nitrogen, lack of pruning, or a pot-bound plant.

Yellowing Leaves: Can be a sign of overwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient deficiency (especially iron).

Pests: Can be susceptible to aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites, especially when stressed or indoors.

Bud Drop: Buds falling before opening can be caused by sudden changes in temperature, under-watering, or low humidity.

I am a long-lived perennial shrub. With good care, I can thrive and fill your home with fragrance for many years. Regular pruning after flowering helps maintain my shape and encourages more blooms.
