I am a stately and resilient evergreen conifer, valued for my dense, lush green foliage and elegant, pyramidal to columnar shape. Often used as a windbreak, privacy screen, or ornamental specimen, I bring year-round structure and a calming presence to gardens, parks, and landscapes. My fine-textured, scale-like leaves and durable nature make me a timeless choice for both formal and naturalistic plantings.

Native to various regions across the Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Europe, and Asia, I have been widely cultivated and naturalized in temperate zones around the world. I am commonly planted in Mediterranean climates, coastal areas, and cooler upland regions.
I prefer moderate, consistent moisture, especially during establishment. Once mature, I am drought-tolerant but perform best with deep, occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Avoid waterlogged soil to prevent root diseases.
I thrive in full sun, requiring at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily for dense, healthy growth. I can tolerate partial shade, but my foliage may become thinner and less vibrant in low-light conditions.
I flourish in temperate to cool climates, tolerating a wide range from -15°C to 30°C. I am cold-hardy and can withstand frost, snow, and coastal winds, though extreme heat may cause stress if moisture is insufficient.
Plant me in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Space trees 1.5–3 meters apart for hedging or screening, and wider for standalone specimens. I adapt well to various soil types, including sandy and clay soils if drainage is adequate.
Feed me in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreens. Mature trees rarely need fertilization if grown in healthy soil. Over-fertilizing can lead to excessive, weak growth.
Botanical name: Cupressus sempervirens (Mediterranean Cypress) or Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Lawson Cypress). Family: Cupressaceae. My common name, "Green Cyprus," refers to the classic evergreen cypress varieties known for their rich green color.
Generally non-toxic to pets, though ingestion of large quantities of foliage may cause mild digestive upset. It is always wise to prevent pets from chewing on any ornamental plant.
Good. Like many conifers, I help improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen, and trapping airborne dust and pollutants. I am especially beneficial when planted in groups.
I provide excellent wind protection, noise reduction, and privacy when planted in rows. I am low-maintenance, long-lived, and resistant to many pests. I also provide habitat and shelter for birds and small wildlife.
Susceptible to cypress canker, root rot in poorly drained soil, and spider mites in dry conditions. Browning of inner foliage may occur naturally as part of aging or due to environmental stress like drought or salt spray.
I am a long-lived tree, often surviving for 50–150 years or more with proper care. I grow at a moderate to fast rate when young, gradually forming a tall, enduring presence in the landscape.
