I am a productive and compact coconut palm variety, popularly known as Chenangi Coconut. I am valued for my early fruiting habit, medium height, and consistent yield of good-quality coconuts. My clean trunk and graceful fronds make me suitable for farms as well as spacious home gardens.
I am a traditional coconut variety cultivated in coastal India, producing medium-sized nuts with sweet water and rich copra. My resilience and adaptability make me a reliable choice for farmers.
Native to coastal regions of Kerala and Karnataka, I am part of India’s diverse coconut heritage. My cultivation supports both household use and commercial copra/oil production.
I require regular watering during establishment, especially in dry seasons. Once mature, I thrive with natural rainfall and tolerate coastal drought conditions.
I flourish in full sun, where my fronds spread wide and fruiting is maximized. Shade reduces nut yield and slows growth.
I grow best in warm tropical climates between 25–35°C. I am highly tolerant of heat and humidity but sensitive to frost.
Plant me in sandy or loamy well-drained soil with spacing of 7–8 meters. I am ideal for coastal belts, homesteads, and agroforestry systems.
I respond well to organic manure and balanced NPK fertilizer. Regular feeding improves nut size, copra yield, and water sweetness.
Botanical name: Cocos nucifera cv. Chenangi. Family: Arecaceae. I am a tall-type coconut palm with medium nut size.
My water and kernel are safe for humans and pets. My husk and shell are non-toxic but not edible.
Moderate; my large fronds trap dust and provide shade, improving microclimates in coastal villages.
I provide edible coconut water, copra for oil extraction, husk fiber, and timber. My cultivation supports rural economies and traditional diets.
I am susceptible to pests like rhinoceros beetle and red palm weevil, and diseases like root wilt. Proper orchard care reduces losses.
I can live 60–80 years, with peak nut production between 15–40 years. My tall trunk and spreading fronds make me both productive and ornamental.
