I am a fascinating and beneficial type of fungi known for my role in breaking down organic matter and enriching soil. Often referred to in gardening as a natural soil amendment or mycorrhizal helper, I support plant health by forming symbiotic relationships with roots, improving nutrient uptake, and suppressing soil-borne diseases. I am not a plant, but I am a vital partner in garden ecosystems and indoor plant care.

Found naturally in forest soils and healthy garden ecosystems worldwide, I thrive in moist, organic-rich environments. I have been harnessed in agriculture and horticulture to promote sustainable plant growth and reduce the need for chemical fertilizers.

I thrive in consistently moist (but not waterlogged) soil. I am sensitive to drying out, so maintaining adequate moisture helps me colonize plant roots and spread through the soil. Overwatering, however, can drown me and reduce oxygen availability.

I do not require light to grow, as I live beneath the soil surface. I form relationships with plant roots in shaded or sunlit areas alike, as long as soil conditions are favorable.

I flourish in moderate soil temperatures, typically between 15°C to 25°C. Extreme heat or cold can slow my activity, but I remain dormant and revive when conditions improve.

I am usually added to soil as a powder, granule, or liquid inoculant when planting. Mix me into the root zone or apply to existing plants by watering in. I work best in organic-rich, well-aerated soil without chemical fungicides.

I do not require feeding in the traditional sense—I obtain sugars from plant roots in exchange for nutrients. Avoid high-phosphorus chemical fertilizers, which can inhibit my growth. Organic matter like compost supports my ecosystem.

The term "Funus Kafa" appears to be a phonetic or regional reference to beneficial soil fungi, likely meaning "Fungus" or "Mycorrhizal Fungi." Common genera include Trichoderma, Glomus (mycorrhizae), and other decomposer or helper fungi. Kingdom: Fungi.

Generally safe for pets, as I am non-toxic and live in soil. However, avoid ingestion of concentrated fungal products, and always follow product labels for safe use around animals.

Indirect. While I do not purify air directly, I improve plant health and vigor, which in turn enhances the plant’s natural air-purifying abilities.

I enhance root growth, increase drought resistance, improve nutrient absorption (especially phosphorus), protect against root pathogens, and help break down organic matter into plant-available nutrients.

Can be harmed by chemical fungicides, over-tilling, and soil sterilization. Poor soil conditions, drought, or excessive fertilizer can limit my effectiveness. In potted plants, I may become less active over time if not replenished.

I can survive in soil for many months to years, especially when supported by living plant roots and organic matter. Regular addition of organic compost helps maintain a healthy fungal population in garden soil.
