I am Canna 'Yellow', the vibrant torch of the summer garden. My bold, banana-like leaves and stunning clusters of bright yellow blooms make me a dramatic focal point for beds, borders, and containers, bringing a touch of the tropics anywhere I grow.
I am a striking ornamental rhizomatous plant, prized for my lush foliage and vivid, showy flowers.
Native to tropical and subtropical Americas; cultivated worldwide in warm climates.
Water regularly and deeply to keep soil consistently moist; do not allow to dry out.
Requires full sun (at least 6+ hours daily) for best flowering.
Thrives in 20–35°C; foliage dies back with frost; rhizomes can be lifted and stored in colder zones.
Plant rhizomes 5-10 cm deep in rich, moist, well-drained soil; space 30-60 cm apart.
Feed monthly with a balanced, high-potassium fertilizer to promote continuous blooms.
Botanical name: Canna × generalis 'Yellow'; Family: Cannaceae.
Considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses.
Moderate; contributes to general air quality through photosynthesis and transpiration.
Provides dramatic visual impact, attracts pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies, excellent for creating a tropical aesthetic.
Susceptible to caterpillars (like the canna leaf roller), rust fungus, and snails/slugs; rhizomes may rot in waterlogged soil.
Perennial in zones 7-11; treated as an annual or lifted in colder climates. Grows 0.6-1.8 meters tall in a season.
