All Details

I am the English Rose, the quintessence of timeless romance and garden elegance. My sumptuous, deeply cupped blooms in soft, nuanced hues, coupled with a divine old-rose fragrance and lush, bushy form, embody classic beauty and poetic grace.

I am a class of modern shrub roses developed by David Austin, combining the exquisite flower forms and fragrances of old garden roses with the repeat-flowering and color range of modern hybrids.

Bred in England by David Austin starting in the 1960s; now cultivated and adored by rose enthusiasts in temperate gardens worldwide.

Water deeply at the base 1-2 times per week, keeping foliage dry. Requires consistent moisture, especially during bud formation and flowering.

Requires full sun (at least 6 hours daily) for optimal growth, bloom production, and disease resistance.

Prefers moderate climates (15-26°C); needs winter chill in colder zones and protection from extreme heat.

Plant in rich, well-drained, loamy soil with generous organic matter. Space 0.6-1.2 meters apart depending on variety.

Feed with a specialized rose fertilizer or balanced granular feed in early spring and again after the first flush of blooms.

Botanical name: Rosa (English Rose cultivars, e.g., 'Graham Thomas', 'Gertrude Jekyll'); Family: Rosaceae.

Mildly toxic to cats and dogs. Thorns can cause physical injury, and ingestion can cause stomach upset.

Low; primarily valued for supreme ornamental and sensory qualities.

Provides the most romantic and fragrant cut flowers; creates stunning garden focal points, borders, and arches; exceptional for cottage gardens and floral design.

Susceptible to black spot, powdery mildew, and aphids; requires regular pruning and preventative fungal care.

Long-lived perennial shrub; with proper care, can thrive for decades, typically growing 1-1.5 meters tall and wide, depending on the cultivar.
