I am the Bleeding Heart Vine, a romantic cascade of poetic contrast. My elegant, dark green leaves cradle clusters of exquisite white lantern-like calyces, from which emerge brilliant crimson flowers—a stunning display of love and delicate beauty for trellises and arches.
I am a stunning evergreen twining climber, cherished for my unique, two-toned floral display and graceful, romantic appearance, often grown on supports or in hanging baskets.
Native to tropical West Africa; cultivated globally as a prized ornamental vine in warm climates and conservatories.
Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist during the growing season. Reduce watering in winter but do not let it dry out completely.
Prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. Can tolerate some morning sun but protect from harsh afternoon rays.
Thrives in 18-27°C; sensitive to frost and cold drafts. Keep above 15°C.
Plant in rich, well-draining potting mix. Provide a trellis or support for climbing. Space plants 60-90 cm apart.
Feed every 2-3 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Botanical name: Clerodendrum thomsoniae; Common names: Glory Bower, Bagflower; Family: Lamiaceae.
Mildly toxic if ingested by cats, dogs, or humans, potentially causing gastrointestinal upset.
Moderate; contributes to indoor air freshness and humidity when grown inside.
Provides a spectacular, long-lasting floral display perfect for vertical gardens, pergolas, and decorative containers; attracts butterflies and hummingbirds outdoors.
Susceptible to spider mites, whiteflies, and aphids, especially indoors; leaf drop due to overwatering, underwatering, or low humidity.
Perennial in zones 10-11; often grown as a houseplant or annual elsewhere. Can live several years, climbing or trailing 2-4 meters with support.
