I am the Mango Rajapuri, the regal giant from Gujarat. My robust, spreading tree is a picture of vitality, bearing massive, handsome fruits with a distinctive greenish-yellow skin often blushed with red. My flesh is deep orange, firm, fiberless, and richly sweet with a complex flavor, making me a sovereign choice for both the table and the cannery.
I am a specific, commercially significant mango (Mangifera indica) cultivar originating from the Rajapur region of Gujarat, India. I am famed for my exceptionally large fruit size, excellent shelf life, and versatility for both fresh consumption and processing (slices, pulp, juice).
Native to the Rajapur area in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, India. Widely cultivated in Gujarat and other mango-growing regions of India for its commercial virtues.
Requires regular, deep irrigation during fruit setting and development to achieve its characteristic large size. Drought stress can lead to significant fruit drop and reduced quality.
Demands full sun (8+ hours of direct sunlight) for optimal growth, flowering, and to develop the full depth of flavor and color in the fruit.
Thrives in hot, dry climates (25-38°C) typical of its native region. It requires a distinct period of hot, dry weather before flowering for good fruit set.
Plant in deep, well-drained sandy loam or alluvial soil. Requires ample spacing (8-10m) due to its large, spreading canopy.
Responds well to balanced fertilization. Apply nitrogen-rich fertilizer after harvest for vegetative growth and a potassium-phosphorus rich mix before flowering to boost fruit set and size.
Botanical name: Mangifera indica 'Rajapuri'; Common names: Rajapuri Mango, Rajapur; Family: Anacardiaceae.
The ripe fruit flesh is safe in moderation. However, the peel, leaves, and sap contain urushiol and can cause skin/eye irritation and stomach upset if ingested. The large seed is a major choking hazard.
High. As a large, dense evergreen tree, it is highly effective at oxygen production, carbon sequestration, and providing substantial cooling shade.
Produces extremely large, visually impressive fruits (often 1 kg+); pulp has high recovery percentage and is ideal for making mango pulp, slices, and juices; has good post-harvest storability and transportability; a robust, hardy tree for hot climates.
Susceptible to mango malformation disease and anthracnose. Can be attacked by fruit flies and hoppers. Requires strict crop management (thinning, bagging) to manage the weight of its large fruit clusters and prevent branch breakage.
Long-lived perennial tree. Can remain commercially productive for 40-60 years with proper care. Grows into a large tree, 6-10 meters tall with a wide-spreading canopy.
